A gift for a new American citizen?

Any ideas for a small but meaningful gift for someone who's just become an official American citizen? I have a friend at church who's going for her swearing in ceremony on Tuesday, and her hubby is throwing a surprise party on Friday. I'd like to get her something that's not too big, but meaningful, to commemorate the occasion. I was thinking of maybe a photo frame with the date inscribed, but I'm kind of on the fence about it. Any other ideas?

I like your idea about a frame ~ I'm sure there will be pictures taken of the event. You could maybe find a ceramic type frame with American flag motif. Good luck!

A nice frame sounds like a great idea. I'm in the process of dealing with the INS and the best gift I can think of is $$$, boy do they take a LOT of it.

You can get a reasonably-priced American flag that has been flown over the Capitol in Washington, DC, by contacting your Senator or Representative. That would add a nice touch. They're very nice flags, too.

The first thing that came to my mind is the little flag pins that you can wear on your lapel or blouse. The ones that I am thinking of are made of Rhinestones, but I have also seen them in enamel.

What a great idea! I'll have to remember that...someone we know is working on his citizenship.

You could also make a little gift basket of everything american. Maybe a patriotic coffee cup, keychain, the popcorn that pops up with the red and blue specks, a box of cookie mix and the patriotic sprinkles/icing, an american flag yard flag, a bag of red, white & blue M&M's, etc.

If you just wanted a single gift....star shaped earrings (even if they are not red/white/blue)....necklace or watch with patriotic theme....a t-shirt...

If it was me becoming a citizen, I think I would appreciate a gift certificate to an 'american restaurant'....or maybe a picnic basket. The picnic basket could really get a lot of use and it is kinda American.

I really like 'foo foo' items. I have seen this lithopane night light made by porcelain gardens. They make wonderful stuff. I have several different nightlights of theirs. oh, this seller has a bunch listed in his 'store'.

How about a state quarter's map or some collectible state quarter sets from the US Mint?

How about a nice apple pie and a card congratulating them?
Or even just a card with your sentiments on it would mean a lot to them.
Abottle of champagne or wine? sparkling juice?>

Best New Citizen Gift

We gave a Deed to the United States - giving actual small parcels of land in each of the 50 states...one square inch in size - to commemorate the occasion of my uncle becoming a citizen. He still has it hanging on his wall. What a proud day. Got the legal Deed at the perfect site for gifts for new citizens.
