Re: Dell Vs. Gateway Computers ??

We have personally purchased four Dell's plus I have had several at work. I would definitely recommend Dell over Gateway. They are quick to ship and you can usually get free shipping. I have never had a problem with one of my Dell's.

We've had 2 Gateways and no problems. Great customer service. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Re: Dell Vs. Gateway Computers ??

My daughter got a Gateway lap top in August for pharmacy school. It worked great for the 1st month but she has had nothing but problems with it since then. It was sent to South Dakota to be fixed (did not solve problem). She has been in the local Gateway office twice a week since it got back. She finally got a authorization from the manager of the store to get a new one so I guess we will see what happens when the new comes in. She has to take exams and do presentations for her classes on her laptop so needless to say this has caused her considerable stress.

Dell is definitely rated the best. Our IT folks at work HATE Gateways and never buy them anymore, as they have a lot of problems with network compatibility - so if you're planning a home network, might be something to keep in mind.

I have a Gateway laptop and love it. No problems at all, and they have called me a time or two, just to ask if I am still satisfied.

A friend told me that their Dells at work (laptops) are a pain, as you have to swap out floppy/CD drives... they aren't both "in" at the same time. It's touted as a weight-saving feature, but she'd prefer it weighed an extra lb. and not have to swap all the time.

Mine has an integrated thingy for me to pop my memory card into, as well as a couple of USB ports and a DVD/CD-R. It's wireless, too. I LOVE IT! =)

Everyone I know who's gotten a Gateway has had problems with it, and then terrible problems with customer service. I'm not sure how well the company is doing - I know the Gateway store near me closed earlier this year.

Most people I know with Dells are happy with them.

Re: Dell Vs. Gateway Computers ??

I got my Dell Dimension 4600 about a month ago (got a GREAT price on it!) and it's pure HEAVEN.

We had Gateways at work and they were awful.

Bought a Dell three years ago. It was a lemon- did not work- would freeze constantly. They sent out a person who said there was nothing wrong with it- he was here about 5 minutes total. They tried to have my DH fix it over the phone with DH holding screwdrivers etc- I kid you not. This went on for hours over several days. We could never get the same person to talk to us more than once, and each customer service rep made promises they did not keep. I finally hit the roof with them and told them DH and I had jobs, kids, a home to maintain, we could devote no more time to their defective computer. We packed it up, and UPS came and got it. We bought a Gateway 2 weeks later and we are still running strong.

We have over 200 Dell's at work and although it is not in my job description (isn't that how it always works?), I often find myself helping coworkers figure out their machines. I love the Dells....in the past 3 years, I think we've maybe had problems with 3-4 machines (hard drive and/or video cards), which isn't bad considering the machines are on 24/7 and a bunch of goofs who know NOTHING about them are screwing around with the settings all day long.

OTOH, a coworker bought a Gateway for home use and has hated it. She already had a new scanner and printer and neither would work with the new machine....and when she called Gateway for support, they told her too bad, you didn't buy the scanner/printer from us, we can't help you. Yech....

According to me We accept alone purchased four Dell's additional I accept had several at work. I would absolutely acclaim Dell over Gateway. They are quick to address and you can usually get chargeless shipping. I accept never had a botheration with one of my Dell's.
