| Re: Lite Brite refills?
Hi there! We just got the cube for Christmas and I have to admit i'm a bit confused. The pegs don't seem to stay well in the holes, so are the black sheets essential to using it? I thought the pattern idea was neat, but I see there were two sheets of just the grid, as if they're necessary to use it at all. Can you only use the pattern sheets once? Maureen |

We got this too and the sheets didn't last long with 2 kids. I've been looking around the internet for patterns to copy or print out and I haven't had much luck. Unfortunately, from what I've been reading, the sheets are hard to find and expensive. I'm not too happy about this. I've looked at one Walmart, Target, Kmart and Toys R Us. None of them had the refills in stock, probably because of Christmas. We did use some black construction paper cut down to size and the boys seemed to be okay with that, but the pictures were easier for the younger one to work with. Amber

As far as whether you need to use a sheet - probably not. the only thing is the black sheet does block the light from coming through other than in your design. Plus, my son just really enjoys following the patterns, although I'm sure he'll also do his own designs as well. |

My son got one of the cubes too. I think you do need some type of paper over the white areas because A) the black papers block the light well and B) the pegs do not stay in without the help of the paper. I think they should sell refills, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I read on another board that someone contacted the company (is it Hasbro? can't think off the top of my head) and the company e-mailed her back with a product code to reorder the balck papers. It's considered a replacement part and I don't think it's cheap, but if you REALLY want the new black papers, contact the company and you can get replacements. Luckily, my son hasn't used all of his black papers yet LOL!

This thread makes me both smile, and shake my head in rueful amazement. I got a Lite Brite for Christmas 33 years ago...and my mother was just as frustrated and exasperated as you all are here! My sis and I used it until the paper was gone....the pegs, as you said, don't hold without it. We tried black construction paper a few times, but ran through that quickly too. Plus, it wasn't as much fun without the pattern, so Lite-Brite quickly became a permanent resident of our basement shelves. I can't believe they've been getting away with this "single use papers" scam all these years! You'd think that by now, people would have either gotten the word that this is a BIG issue with this toy, or that Hasbro would have gotten its act together. Then again, Hasbro's gotten by without doing anything reasonable about it for all these years, and their product still sells, sells, sells! Sorry ya'all are having this problem too!

so you would have to buy the sheets. Well I have got around this by picking up sets used that have black sheets and then I scan them. Also another thing you can do is pick up a sheet of Black Velveteen paper. It's kinda furry on one side but is paper and holds up well. Check scrapbooking stores for it. Brookescraps
