Unhappy Re: is Frigidaire a good brand?

I hate Frigidaire appliances, the only 2 I have ever owned were not worth the money I paid for them. I have a range right now that is only like 6 months old and it sucks. It takes 45 minutes to preheat to 350o. This is my opinion only, but I had a dryer also that I did not like by them too.

I hope this helps,\

Thumbs up yikes

wow.

I am going to get a new refrig for our cottage, and frigidaire was one of the ones I like. Its either that, or the whirlpool. That scares me into not wanting to get that type.

I LOVE Frigidaire appliances. My parents had a Fridge that lasted for years. I put one of their smooth top cooktops and a dishwasher in my last house and loved it so much, that I put the same exact models in this house. Now....I would never buy a GE...way too many problems with those.

I am in the process of buying new applainces for the whole kitchen. One of the stoves I am seriously considering is a Frigidaire Gallery. It got pretty good reviews with consumer reports, but there is one thing that really bugs me....the bottom drawer seems cheaply made. It moves a bunch when you pull it out.

On the plus side, it is a convection over for about $600 and you don't always have to cook with the convection part if you choose note to.

That being said....I still can't decide. Consumer reports seems to like them, but I am worried about quality.

I am actually looking at the frigidaire refrigerator with top mount. I plan to buy it in the next month. I dont have access to consumer reports. Where do I look for what they recommend for refrigerators? I just got a whirlpool side by side, and have had whirlpool side by side before. The whirlpool top mount is more expensive, and is exactly what I want, but it comes with an ice maker, and I cant use that, since I dont have a water hook up at my cottage.

Bought a Frigidaire refrigerator the first week of June. Had 5 service calls on it by the end of July. What a piece of crap!

Now my crushed ice is dispensing curly pieces of plastic with the ice. Have to call the jerks again!

Perhaps you'll have better luck.

You can get a one month online membership at www.consumerreports.org for $4.95, which is a bargain if it saves you from buying the wrong refrigerator! That's what I did when we were buying new appliances for our kitchen last year, and it's very easy to find the information you're looking for, rather than paging thru old magazines at the library.

I don't think it's too hard to remove an ice maker, so if you really want the Whirlpool, it shouldn't be a problem.

We have the Fridgidaire Gallery Refrigerator and dishwasher and love them both. Not a bit of trouble. Just keep in mind you can find anyone that has had trouble with any brand of appliances. None of them are perfect.

We have all Frigidaire appliances in my 2 year old home. We have had no problems whatsoever and have been very happy with our purchase. For the money, you can't go wrong.

I had a Frigidaire washer and it had many problems and just died during the summer. The tech. that came to diagnose it said they were not made they way the used to be and that Frigidaire is one of the brands he receives most calls on. My parents had a Frigidaire refrigerator that lasted over 30 years but they made better quality products that long ago. I have learned that you get what you pay for and I really don't want to have to replace my appliances so I would rather pay a little more for an appliance that is going to be reliable and work well than get something cheap and always have a problem.

Beth1118-

Do check out consumer reports on line. I signed up for a month, just to be able to see what I needed to find on the appliances. Also, Lowes will price match and give 10% of the difference. (Sears also, I believe) I'm planning on getting an GE side by side from Lowes.

I would also suggest, that in addition to deciding what brand you want, check out the store's extended warranties also.

The Sears guy was telling me that they come out and check the fridge each year and clean the coils and check the gasket, etc for you, rather than waiting for it to die or develop a problem.

If you really like the Frigidaire, then maybe adding an extended warranty that covers everything for another 3-5 years might be a good investment. Also, some I've seen have a lemon clause. That might protect you if it is a lemon and has to be fixed numerous times.

I am down to deciding the brand now. Its a toss up between frigidaire and whirlpool. My son works at best buy, so I will get a nice discount that no one can beat.

We were very happy with our Frigidaire refridgerator for the past 5 years so we brought it when we moved to a house that had a refrig. We put it in the basement. We just bought an upright Frigidaire freezer to go with it for all my coupon bargains.

I had a Frigedaire washing machine about 5 years ago. It broke down after about 2 years. I called a repair man, and it couldn't be fixed. The connection between the tub and the motor broke. The repair man called it a "disposable" washing machine. I couldn't even get someone to take it for scrap. The scrap man told me that the materials in them are so bad they aren't worth anything. Finally took it to the dump.

I just bought a new oven recently. I got a Kenmore, and it is wonderful. It is a conventional/convection oven. It is self cleaning and has a drawer in the bottom that you can use as storage or to keep things warm. The feature I like best is that you can take out one half of the middle rack if you have something big like a ham, and still have room for other things.

Good luck!

I have the two latest CR issues in my lap that have refrigerator ratings in them (Feb 04 and July 03). Without knowing specifically which models you are considering, I can't look them up. Repair history I can tell you, though (according to the CR surveys): As far as repair history for both side-by-side and top- & bottom-freezers go, Whirlpool has a better repair history (ie, fewer repairs) than Frigidaire.

We bought a Whirlpool from Best Buy a year ago (it's a side by side model, though) and it's been wonderful.

We just bought a Kenmore dual fuel range which was made by Frigidaire. It's a "commercial oven wannabe" and was much cheaper and MUCH more cheaply made than other similar ovens. You get what you pay for, I guess. Anyway, it seems to work fine, but the bottom drawer, which is for storage, is AWFUL! It's really flimsy.

When we were looking for appliances, and AFTER we'd already bought the range, we were told by a salesperson that Frigidaire was only good for refrigerators and freezers...nothing else. Oh, well...at least we bought the extended warranty! lol

Good luck!

Thumbs down 46 Day Old Frigidaire Refrigerator Has Control Replaced

Dear Beth, you are smarter than me to ask questions before buying. I HQV3E B33N EMAILING THE MESSAGE BELOW since July 6 when our fridge stopped cooling to Frigidaire website customer service, to the store that delivered it to our new address in Mesa and to all other reps that responded with apologies and no resolution. In Montclair, Virginia, where we lived for 19 years, I never had a problem with appliances or their repair. In Mesa, however, where we relocated on May 16, it looks like no one is capable to understand our pain and help us out. We are still without a fridge and the manufacturer never offered a fair solution after tons of emails and phone calls.
Here’s my brief painful story.

“On May 12, 2011 we bought a FRIGIDAIRE refrigerator (model # FFHS2611LQ, serial # 4A11502582 ) online with 5 year warranty. It was delivered to my home (2266 S Emerson Circle, Mesa, AZ 85210) on May 19 by the Home TV & Appliance store in 310 W Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ. – tel. (480) 649-1811.

On July 6, 2100 in the morning I noticed the melting ice flooded my hard wood floor overnight. also noticed that the temperature under refrigerator is stuck at 4 and flashing. I called the store which delivered it to ask them have it picked up and returned. Manager told me after 30 days of purchase date it is the manufacturer’s responsibility. Also they sent a MAYTAG tech (Phoenix, AZ, 85041 @ (602) 252-6030) who came to the house on July 7 (THU) He said the temperature control is defective and needs to be replaced and it will have to wait until following week because they have to order the part from Nevada. Yesterday, July 13 the tech came, replaced the control in about 15 minutes. This happened around 9:30 AM Last night I dared to open the fridge (we were told that it takes 12 hrs for temp to adjust so I did not open earlier) and noticed that nothing has changed-the temp under refrigerator was still flashing at 4. About 1 hr ago (it is now 6 AM in MESA, AZ) I went to check it Again all the melted ice flooded my floor overnight.

PLEASE SEND SOMEONE TO PICK UP THE REFRIGERATOR, RETURN THE MONEY PLUS THE 5 YR WARRANTEE BACK IN MY ACCOUNT ASAP I do not want a replacement or repair I WANT IT BACK TO WHEREVER YOU WANT IT OUT OF MY HOUSE AND MY MONEY BACK Thank you.”

I forgot to mention to the message below that I sent earlier that our refrigerator has a large label on its back that says PATENT PENDING (just noticed it yesterday during the repair). WHY ARE YOU SELLING appliances with patent pending????

Thumbs down

My grandparents had that brand and never had any trouble that I know of, but they sure don't make things like they used to. I always had GE before, and then I bought a Fridgidaire stove and Refridge. The stove is good, but the refridge is 4 years old. I must admit, at the time, I didn't have the money for the costlier ones. So I took almost the cheapest one they had. In the last 3 months, for some reason, right underneath the top freezer part, something must leak, then it freezes and thaws and all comes down on top shelve of refridge. I don't have any extra money right now to have them check it out. I called to see if they could tell me what it was about as the freezer is ok and the refridge part is also working right. She told me to unplug it for a half hour and plug it back in. Said sometimes the coils? freeze. Didn't help. I will just keep using with chloths that I keep changing until I can afford another refridge and then think I will change brands. I wished after I got it that I would have gotten a little bit larger ones, as I picked the smallest and if you have a picnic, etc. Is is too tight a squeeze to get everything in.

Avoid it! If you go to your local library they should have Consumer Reports issues at LEAST for the past year. You can find the appliance issue and read about them yourself without having to pay for a CR membership online.
