I got mine last year and cannot remember life without it! haha

It works kinda like satellite TV, you hear the channels thru a "wave" coming from up in the sky, a satellite. The difference between XM and sirius technically is not much, but the determining factor for most is the programming. My brother is a blue/jazz guitarist and he preferred the stations on sirius, plus we are both hooked on Howard Stern. I know, no flames, I hated him at first, now I'm addicted! He is only on Sirius, so that's what we got. I'm his secondary unit and we don't even live together! We are in the same city though.

Anyway, it was like $12.95 a month for the first unit and something like 6.99 a month for a second unit. You must buy the unit/ receiver. We got the cheapest ones, $45. They are called plug and play, I have mine in my car, plugs into the cig. lighter and sits on the dash. I can also bring it inside the house and plug it into my stereo system. My brother plugs his into his boombox when not using it in the car.

Some radios offer recording, you can tape a program/music and play it back later. Not useful to me, but I guess it would be if you are listening to talk radio or a particular sports game and are not avail. to hear it live.

Hope that helped, PM me for any more questions.

You need to look at the programming to see what you like best. We've been with Sirius for a few years and love it because it has every NFL game (home and away feeds). For that reason alone, it's worth it to us.

OK if you are willing to pay a monthly charge.

SIRIUS is great if you want to pay a monthly charge I dont mind all my local music stations are country I hate country, the rock stations are too far away and we cannot get a good signal from our radio, so we listen to our sirius all the time, it does block out certain times when you get in a dense area of trees or so, im ready to purchase a second unit so I dont have to transport it from the car to the house.
We have the sportster there was a rebate with ours last year , but with the sirius there is all kind of music, talk shows, sports I heard that nascar is now or going to be on sometime not my bag so I dont really pay attention, I think you can try it online and see if you like it, anyway I love my channel 100.

Oh there has been talk about maybe XM and sirius merging sometime but I dont know if there has been any updates as of last year.

We have XM in both of our vehicles. I love it! My local stations aren't all that great around here so XM lets me keep up wiht news, listen to my music, gets Disney for the kids, food network, e tv, and all the sports that my hubby likes. It akes road trips so much better! They even have traffic alerts for many metropolitan areas. I found this incredibly useful when we lived in the DC area.

Don't ever make a one time payment to XM with a debit or credit card. They take this as permission to automatically bill your card the next year with no advance notice.
