Anyone getting Walmart $4 Prescriptions?

I was wondering if they are like any other generics? We are on a plan where hubby works, and we would save more by going to Walmart. He has to take alot of meds and everyone, but one is on the list they have. I know many people don't like Walmart, but I have to look for saving wherever I can and this year has been mighty hard with a few thousand in extra dr. bills. Thanks!

Just to let you know, Target also has the same list and also 4.00. I use Target for mine and they are the same as any other Generic brand.

Are you asking if the generic drugs are as good as other generic drugs ? If that's the question then yes they are as good as other generic and also as good as the brand name drugs.

I'm not a big fan of Walmart, and I don't shop there, But I don't have to.
Their generic drug plan is a good one, check it out. Good luck.

Myths and Facts About Generic Drugs6

Myth: Generics take longer to act in the body.

Fact: The firm seeking to sell a generic drug must show that its drug delivers the same amount of active ingredient in the same time frame as the original product.

Myth: Generics are not as potent as brand-name drugs.

Fact: FDA requires generics to have the same quality, strength, purity, and stability as brand-name drugs.

Myth: Generics are not as safe as brand-name drugs.

Fact: FDA requires that all drugs be safe and effective and that their benefits outweigh their risks. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body, they have the same risk-benefit profile as their brand-name counterparts.

Myth: Brand-name drugs are made in modern manufacturing facilities, and generics are often made in substandard facilities.

Fact: The FDA won’t permit drugs to be made in substandard facilities. The FDA conducts about 3,500 inspections a year in all firms to ensure standards are met. Generic firms have facilities comparable to those of brand-name firms. In fact, brand-name firms account for an estimated 50% of generic drug production. They frequently make copies of their own or other brand-name drugs but sell them without the brand name.

Myth: Generic drugs are likely to cause more side effects.

Fact: There is no evidence of this. The FDA monitors reports of adverse drug reactions and has found no difference in the rates between generic and brand-name drugs.

I sure didn't know about the $4.00 drugs. What do you have to do to qualify for them?
Thanks

I have transferred all my prescriptions to WalMart and am saving a lot of money because of the $4.00 generic program. I'd stopped taking my Pravachol for high cholesterol a year ago because it was over $100. a month. I can now afford to take it again because of this program.

All I needed to do to qualify is give them my name, address, dob, phone, etc.

One of my scripts that is not generic - Captopril - was only costing me $7.20 at Eckerds but at WalMart it's $2.10. I'm so happy with this program because I have NO health insurance or prescription plan. This is a huge savings for me.

The 4.00 generic medications can be found by going to Walmart you can read more info or click the Printable list to determine which meds are on the list.

Not all states are doing this yet so be sure to call before you transfer. Also, since I work at a Drs. office if a patient tried to change a prescription from a different pharmacy, the pharmacy would sometimes agree to the $4.00 generic. Check with your individual pharmacy.

We only get the generic drugs on the list at Walmart because it can sometimes be a pain in the keester but saves us money. The good thing is you do not need insurance for the 4.00 medications. If you choose to only get the medication and not show you insurance card you still get it for 4.00. Works with all plans. Now, here is the catch: sometimes if your insurance requires your co-pay to be say 10.00 Walmart has to charge that 10.00 copay to you. I find it best NOT to give them my insurance information since I do not want to take that chance.

Hope this helps! Oh, and Target matches too but, once again, only in certain areas so be sure to call first.

Also, some grocery stores are now doing this, too. Hen House & Price Chopper are doing it here. It's the same list of drugs (I think - mine aren't on the list) and they're $4.

Meijers is only giving free "antibiotics".
And not all antibiotics are free , there are only 7 on the free list

The one I had recently was NOT on the list and cost me $14.xx at Meijer.

I am using Walmart for our other RX's.
Walmart has a long list of generics for $4.00

If you have a 90 day RX they just charge you the $12 and you don't have to go back every month for refills.

Wow! Thanks for all the info. Definitely will be going to Walmart and switching over prescripts, unless I have to get new ones because of having mail in pharmacy ones. I didn't know that about the insurance co-pay business either. Hope they won't go by that, as they already had our info for a couple of new monthly prescripts. Thanks again!

Also, folks who have no insurance and can't afford brand name meds might want to bring the walmart list to their doctor.

Perhaps something on the list could be substituted for the expensive drug.

Thanks so much for all the info. We don't have insurance and the cost is about to eat us alive.

If you have to use mail order, only use it for the Rx that are more expensive. Get the $4 ones at WalMart (or anywhere else that is price matching) without insurance. Unless your co-pay is less than $4, there is no reason to use insurance for Rx on the $4 list.

I have 3 Rx that I take regularly -- I'll get one for $4 without insurance at Target and the other two (brand name for which they are no generics) via mail order using my insurance which requires us to use mail order for any long-term perscriptions.

Thankfully my insurance reimburses 100% for generics. One of the few good things about my insurance.

This is such a good thing though for those w/o insurance- Hopefully they keep it.

Is this a program you have to pay for sign up for? Or can you just go to walmart with your prescription and they will fill it generic if its on the list?

It's not a program, it's their new regular price for the generics on the list.

Did you try it yet? I take a prescription that is on the list, but when I got it last I paid my $10 copay. Will I have to transfer it to get the price of $4 or will they run it without the insurance? TIA

Rite Aid will price match the Walmart price of $4.00 but you must ask them to. They do not offer the information. And they must call Walmart to check the price. Worth it for me as Walmart is 25 miles away.

That's a great idea taking the list with you. I work at a hospital & we give the lists to our patients. When I have gone to the doctor in the past, a lot of the times, he will write for a rx that is more economical since he takes into consideration whether you one is insured or not.

there is a limit on the quantity that you can get for the $4. i have one that is 60 for the month and the limit is 1 pill and another has a limit of 20 for the month, so i am better off with my insurance.
