Question I-Pod and Music Site??

My daughter has new IPod from Christmas. I know I-Tunes is 99cents per song (I won't pay). Is their any safe (virus free) music sites to get music from? I appreciate any help with this!! I am new at the IPod stuff!

Thanks a bunch

I like Itunes and think .99 a song is very reasonable. I would never get songs off a "free" site just because you might be committing an illegal act and I wouldn't risk it, along with the virus risk.

Mostly, I just upload my current CD's onto Itunes (which is easy and free to do) and make songlists from those. I have only bought maybe 5 songs from itunes. The rest I already had but was able to put into good playlists. Perhaps if your DD doesn't have CD's she can get some (for free) at the library to upload and then return???

Why did you get her an iPod if you wont pay for songs??? It's illegal to download for free anymore and I would NOT risk it.

I totally agree, eleven cents difference adds up.
DD hasn't asked to pay for any downloads yet. She's loaded from her CD's so far. You can also borrow CD's from friends, download onto the computer and return. We do that also.

There are legitimate, legal ways to get free music online, but most are pretty specific. Anything where you have to download software to download music is much less likely to legal. Do look at artist's websites, as many have an MP3 or two up for grabs, as do commercial sites like Amazon.

I was looking for a site that allows unlimited downloads for a flat price and came across this web site on a google search. It is approved by Consumers Guide, so I am assuming it is a legal place to download music. You must pay an annual fee for unlimited downloads. The site is:
http://www.consumers-guide.net/musicdownloadreviews/

I am still trying to do some research to find out more but haven't had the chance. Let me know what you find out about these sites.

Hurm... Interesting topic.

How about if my neighbor has oodles of songs on THEIR PC/Ipod. I can borrow hers, upload everything to MY PC, and make playlists, right? So, if we BOTH like a song, one of us downloads it, and we BOTH get it? Is that legal?

Jason,

I am not positive on that. I don't think it's exactly the correct thing to do. If a person in your household buys the song then I would think it's okay to pass to others in the house. It's a fuzzy line...in that situation you would have to go with your gut

OP have your daughter download all her CDs/friends' CDs to start...and if you search for download sites, there are many and some have very reasonable prices...just check and make sure it's a legit site..

There are also cheap download gift cards resold on ebay, I have seen $10-15 for 120 songs or something like that..I don't know which are the 'good' companies for downloads and itunes costs more than that, but there are lots of options good luck
