Any opinons? Have a mattress that you love? Have one that you hate?
I haven't bought a new bed in years, and the one we do pick out will proabley have to last for many years to come, so I want a quality one!
Thanks!

I saw great prices at Big Lots...They were Serta and you could buy mattress/box spring separately if you wanted to. I recommend pillowtop and a good mattress cover. Otherwise, lay on it and roll around a bit! Hah.

I just went shopping and finally just bought one after searching and searching. I would suggest buying for comfort. and most of all ask how many springs are inside. I found most cheaper ones only have like 3 or 400 springs and thus provide less suppport. I paid more..but got one with 800+ springs and has stuff like memory foam right inside the matteress. Most places wouldnt even talk about how many springs were inside, but just wanted me to spend x xxx $$$$ . I acually ended up buying from a junky looking store that had some great prices (low overhead and less mark up)! and love that I did some homework and saved money, kept the money local and my back sure likes the new mattress! Good luck!

we just did the same thing. DH has a bad back and can't rest well. We just bought a latex foam mattress at Denver Mattress. They are custom making it for us. It was the most comfortable of all the beds we tried. The tempur pedic wasn't as comfy as I thought it would be and spring mattress simply make too much noise. We hate "creaky" stuff. We tried pillow top...basically all the beds in about 3 places over the weekend. Once we get our new bed (Sat), we get 30 days to try it out and if we don't like it, we can exchange for another. That was important to us because you don't want to fork over good $$$ and then hate the bed after a few nights. It's hard to get a *feel* for the bed just laying on it a few minutes.

I will say we tried the sleep number 2 years ago and sent it back....YUCK

Big Lots! who would have known..I love that store, like a big garage sale, I'll for sure check it out!
Good tip about the springs... Hey, anyone have a waterbed? Can you still buy them?? I used to love mine..LOL! Remember the heavy wooden headboards/ drawers under the base and mirrored canopys!
I'm showing my age....
Thanks Ladies!

I recently bought a new bed and went with a local place. Don't be afraid to get on the bed and lay on it for awhile. You can even bring your own pillow if you want. I went through a local place and they were the best. A couple things to consider are the delivery, ours was free, but some places said they were going to charge and others charged over a certain amount. Also, ask about setup and a bedframe. Don't be afraid to ask if you go to a local place if that's been the lowest price or if they can give you a deal. Sometimes they will throw something in.

All of the mattresses in our house except one (that was purchsed a long time ago), came from Original Mattress Factory -- www.originalmattressfactory.com. Even if there isn't a store near you, the web site has lots of good shopping information. They are great quality and a lot less expensive than the brand names. We got a top of the line king size for under $1200 and it is great.

we just bought a sealy or serta (can't remember which) guilmont from costco and it is exactly what they said it would be... and it is about half the price i paid for a comparable one 2 years ago from macy's, and also half the price of anything i found in the local stores. i would check out what costco has, call the manufacturer and ask them to describe the firmness etc before deciding. i

I must say I bought a sleep number and sooooooooooooo glad I did. They are expensive, but have never slept as good as I do now. Really if you think about never having to turn them over or replace them it's well worth it. They don't get those dreadful "sag holes" either.

hmmmmmmm about the sleep number bed, I love to sleep at 35 or 40 and hubby sleeps at 85. He doesn't roll towards me and there's really not a space between the two sides , at least not that I notice and I'm fussy. It took me a while to decide on this bed but I should have gotten one years ago. I have the model 7000

Have a Sealy Crown Jewel, King size, pillow top and loved it until recently noticing a major dip where I sleep. I always sleep in the same position, left side knees bent. You can acutally see the imprint of my body in the bed! We rotate the mattress regularly, but jeepers, I am 125 pounds and this mattress is only 6 years old! I love it, it's comfy, but my side is very obviously caved in, noticeable even when the bed is made. No wonder my shoulder hurts every morning!

We have a select comfort sleep number also. I wouldn't trade it for anything! We love it. I have a pinched nerve in my back and see the chiropractor every other week. I used to be in such pain at waking that I could barely walk for a few hours. Now I don't feel a pinch in my back or my shoulder. I sleep so much better (not perfect, but a great improvement. I probably will never sleep perfectly.) DH has his side at about 35 and I need mine at 85 for my back. I don't notice a hole in the middle, but I can't scooch to the middle after DH goes to work. I can feel the difference between the sides. DH has arthritis in his shoulders and hips and he sleeps better too and snores less!

We are getting our oldest DS the low end model in twin size for $299 soon.

I recently bought new mattresses. I had not been shopping for them for years, and I learned some new stuff about it. I took my time and layed on several mattressess. It was very hard at first, because of the softness of the new top mattress pads interfered with my perception of how "hard" or "soft" the mattress itself was. I wanted a medium firmness mattress, but a soft mattress pad. Try all the different firmnesses to see what's right for you. Even if you need or like a very firm mattress, it can still be soft, but yet firm, with the mattress pad. Also, some of the top mattress pads are too cushy, where you really sink in. Living in Florida, I picked a medium thickness for the top mattress pad on a medium firm bed, so because a very thick top mattress pad would keep me too warm. In short, try laying on lots of different combinations of mattress firmness with mattress pad thickness to determine what feels right for you. While testing, see how it feels to roll over and to get out of the bed along with just back lying. Hope this helps.

They seem to rarely have much of a "sale" (maybe a little off), but they usually offer no interest no payment plans for 12-24 months. We bought oursin Dec. '05 and have until the summer to pay it off. I think we saved maybe $200 on it also.

If you have a friend who has one, they can give you a number and they get some credit for a referal.

Watch their web site for sales, the store will honor them. Two weeks ago they had $250 off . We just bought the 9000 and we love it . I also have a bad back and it has really helped me. It's great because I need a medium firm mattress and my DH doesn't . My dr . recommended that we buy one.

We went to Sams to purchase one and thought we were getting a good deal on a Serta but ended up returning it after a month. It had a valley so bad after 1 month I thought we were laying on the floor. We ended up shopping around until we learned about all the bed out there and what would be best for us. Each person is different and therefore each bed is different for each person. We finally find one at Macy's on sale and got additional savings off as well. Spent more than we originally did at Sams but it has been well worth it. Good luck I hate bed shopping.
