dishwashers, which are the best?

I need a new dishwasher. I would like a quiet one of course. Besides just going out and looking at them, which should I stay away from? Which is the best? What features should I be looking for?

Can't tell which is best, but what not to buy HOTPOINT. We have one that is 2 1/2 years old and my husband has already replaced one part that cost us $38.00 and now I can only run it while I am here, set it one morning before work and when he came home a litte early 4:00pm it was still running! It was a medium of the line price range.

Stay away from GE. We bought all GE appliances when we built our house 4 years ago, and in less then a year the dryer, microwave and refrigerator broke. Nothing but hassles!

My Maytag has been quite reliable. This dishwasher replaced a Maytag that came with the house when I moved in, so I figure the first one lasted well over 11 years. My mother replaced a GE, only lasted about 5 years. She replaced it with a Bosch.

my parents had a kenmore for close to 20 years. we bought one 5 years ago and still quiet and easily ran and fast and you could defintily leave for the day and come back to nice clean dishes. I use mine everyday and no problems with it so far.

I have a Maytag which I've had for 5 years now and never had any problems with it. I really like it compared to a Sears that I had and it's really quiet also.

We just got a Maytag from Home Depot. It is a basic model, cost about $360. It is very quiet, but it is like a new purse, just have to get used to where to put things and get the feel for it. Maybe we will like it more in a few more months. We had a Kenmore for 10 years prior. Only reason we got new is because the cup holder spikes were getting rusty and we saw no interest financing.

Maytag Just recalled over 2 million DW's http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07094.html all you folks with maytags out there check your model #'s.

I work part time at an appilance repair place and one manufacturer that stands by their warranties is Frigidaire, if I was going out today to purchase a Dishwasher I would buy a Frigidaire one (Electrolux Brands).
JennAir is made by Maytag, which is now made by Whirlpool.

Most Dishwashers these days are not built to last more than 10 years. after about 7 most of them have seen at least one service call.

I have owned a GE(Don't buy horrible). Maytag (mostly good) Kenmore with Stainless Steel interior pd about 850 and it is awesome and Sears customer service has been great! This was my first kenmore and won't be my last. I always check Consumer Reports very reliable.

I would go to your public library and find a Consumer Reports magazine there with dishwasher ratings. I wouldn't buy one until I consulted them. An alternative is to sign up for an online membership with them at www.consumerreports.org.

We have a Maytag and I love it. It is the standard two shelf, but lots of extras. Fold down shelves on top and bottom to double stack coffee cups and small glasses. Bottom rack allows for extra high items on one side (platters, large lids, even cookie sheets!) and has extra fold-down space as well. All of the dividers in the bottom can stand up or fold down to make sure everything fits. Basket for silverware is in two pieces, so you can put it wherever you need.

Now, I have had silverware basket on the door and I do like that better, but overall, this dishwasher is my favorite of the 4 we've bought ourselves (owned 3 homes plus installed one in my grandma's house while we were living there while searching for a new home). It has a delay wash on it that is my favorite and most-used feature. I can set the dishwasher to turn on at midnight so I never forget to run it overnight!

Maytag and Jennair are the same. I used to have a KitchenAid in this house and it was the original dishwasher from 1968! It still worked great, but it was ugly and noisy and I wanted a sleeker design. I love all of my Kenmore appliances and I was raised by a family who never ever shopped at Sears. My washer/dryer, fridge, and state-of-the-art range are all Kenmore!

Hi I just recently bought a Sears Kenmore and the reason I did was because my old one was a Sears and it lasted me 18 yrs!!! This new one is SOOOOOO quiet! I think you would be very pleased with a Kenmore I know I certainly am!

We just bought a Kenmore. It was a consumer reports best buy model. We installed it about 4 weeks ago and I love it. It has so many features inside that make it easy to stack the dishes and it is a good large size. It is also super quiet and does a great job cleaning. I thought my hubby had scoured my frying pan, so I thanked him and he said that it came out of the dishwasher like that!! I haven't seen it that clean in years!
It was about $500 and they were running a free delivery deal when we bought it. Check out Consumer Reports - I trust them! Jenn
