Question Want to buy elliptical exercise machine. Need advice.

I want to buy an elliptical exercise machine but I am very confused which one to buy. I bought one at Sports Authority but it got broken within one month. Could anyone recommend me a strong, durable and not very expensive elliptical?

we bought the same one our gym had about 5 years ago. It's a reebok I think. We got it at All About Fitness.

As a gym freak, I think I can guide you.

Most of the stuff sold at mass market retailers is absolute crap. It will not last if you use it seriously.

Go to a gym for a free trial. Most will give you a week. Do not sign anything.

See what equipment you like. Try epinions for ratings.

Good equipment is costly but will last. I work out an hour to an hour and a half daily on a Tectrix stairclimber or a Stairmaster 4000PT. Both are professional grade. We own the Stairmaster unit.

As an alternative, some gyms have great deals. Planet Fitness has a deal now in my town for a guaranteed $10/month for 3 years, $30 initiation, and no commitment. Just don't sign any contract with a commitment, no matter what you're told about easy cancellation. If it ain't in writing, it ain't so.

Good luck and good health.

We bought a Schwinn (model #438) about a year ago and have been happy with it. It gets moderate use about 5 days a week. I think we paid around $800, but I don't remember for sure. It was 'last years's model', so it was less expensive that the 'new improved' one that had just come out. DH did a lot of research and found that the Schwinn's were the best quality of the models priced under $1000.

I bought a Precor (the same model that I used at the gym) elliptical trainer over six years ago. I use it 6 -7 days a week for an hour at a time. It's still as good as new (I figured at $500/year around here for a gym membership, it paid for itself after about 4-1/2 years). If you're sure that you'll use it consistently, it's definitely worth it to buy a good quality piece of equipment.
