Any really good websites? I have purchased from bargain section of barnes and noble, bookcloseouts.com, and ebay....Any other really good priced sites that I am missing?

I don't know about Web sites, but do your local libraries have book sales? We have one each year in Sept. There are tons of mysteries, suspense and thrillers. I usually get over 20 books for under 10.00.

If you're willing to part with books you've already read, paperbackswap.com is a great resource. You send your books to people who want them, receive credits for books sent and then can order books from others with those credits. You only pay for postage on the books you send out. I use my account pretty heavily.

I find the best places are garage sales, church sales. Another place I go is a used paperback store. We have one that gives you either 1/4 or 1/3 of the retail price for your used ones and charges 1/2 price to sell them. You don't get cash, but a voucher towards different books. I buy books at garage sales for 25 and 50 cents, (even if I don't read them), and when I'm done take them to the store and get my money back, so to speak, in different books. I have not found any great deals online because of shipping costs.

Is the library an option or do you prefer to own the books?

I ask because our public library has an online card catalog which you can search and place holds on books that you want to read. They send me an email when the book, dvd, etc. is ready for pickup at the front desk.

I also use paperbackswap.com which is good if you are looking for particular titles or authors or certain type books, there is a HUGE variety to choose from. I also go to the yearly library sale, yard sales, thrift stores. I do the same thing people here have mentioned, take high priced books to the used book stores and trade them in for a "credit" 1/4 value of the cover price and then use the "credit" to purchase something I am looking for which costs 1/2 of the original cover price. It usually costs me pennies. Our used book store only keeps one copy of everything, so if you have a book they aready have they won't take it, so I always try to look for "unusual" books.

Another paperbackswap.com person here. Every once in a while I will order some cheap books, but have found it is so much easier (and cheaper) to purchase credits for $2.75 on the site versus buying online along with s&h or the thrift stores around here. Our local library has book sales, but they are usually really, really old paperbacks that I don't care about reading anyway. We don't have a used bookstore around here either. The only drawback to the paperbackswap site is that if it's a new book, sometimes there is an extra long wait period.

Half.com is another that I use if it is a book that I must have for keeps or can't find at the library!

That's too bad. Our library takes book donations for several months prior to the sale and then sells them along with some books they want to purge from the library. There are a lot of recent titles and some great reference type books too (like cook books and craft books). They raise about 30 thousand dollars for the library. At the last sale I got a lot of recent titles, including a hardback "Marley and Me." On the last day of the sale, they let you cram as many books as you can in a box and they sell it for $5.00. It's so much fun!

I went to our library sale in November. I always wait until Sunday when they do the $2.00 bag and $5.00 per box sale. It is amazing how many dealers are there stocking up. This year I even saw another counties library buying books there.

Yup, I've seen dealers at ours too. I've never seen other libraries though...

I have a system worked out, lol! I go the first day and look for books that I really want and I pay full price for them ($2.00/hardback, .50 paperback) - then I go back on Sunday and get a box full for $5.00. The funny thing is, the hardback novels are the last to go, so I know that even if I really want a mystery, to let it go until Sunday. It's the hardback reference books that I have to pick up early if I want to be sure to get them.

I usually go to thrift stores, though those are obviously hit or miss. Some of the suggestions I've seen here like half.com sound good.

I saw an article in People about the Paperbookswap. I went to register and it shows where I can do a referral for someone. I hate to join without giving someone credit. Anyone want me to sign up and use you as a referral? Send me a message. I'll try to register this week. I would love to post some books and then get some back in the mail! Great way to clean things out.

This is a great website to order cheap books from. I've had very good luck ordering from them.
