Last year we went to H&R Block and their preparation fee was over $500! Yes, our taxes were more complicated than usual (income tax from 2 different sates and rental income), but I never dreamed we would be paying that much for their services. Maybe they were able to find more deductions than we would have, but we are not going there this year.

My sister works for H&R block there service are very expensive but you get alot for your money..I don't have to pay...Never for that price....I am very graceful that my sister work there...One year she did my tax for a regular customer. (Just to show me how much I was saving ).I would have pay $150.00 for them to preparation my tax.

I did my taxes with TaxCut and then went into an office, somehow they saved me a couple thousand more dollars than I found. So it was worth it for me to spend a little more.

My suggestion is to do both, take into account that if you go into an H&R Block office that you do not have to pay or file through them if you are not satisfied.

take into account that MOST of these people are seasonal, and they're given a crash course in training. they have no idea of the loop holes that an accountant would. there's also the fear hanging over their heads, that if they make a mistake. H&R BLOCK will have to pay the penalty. if you're gonna have someone do your taxes, have it done by a PRO, not these fly by nites. on another note, all these income tax outfits use the same software that's readily available for FREE online. i for one got back 2000 MORE last year using freeware over what H&R BLOCK was getting me. if you've never used freeware before, it's a NO BRAINER, everything is outlined step by step. unless you have some outrageous deductions, save some money and do it yourself. a simple return without itemized deductions cost at least a hundred dollars.

Thanks! Printed 3 of them. One for me, my manager and a co-worker.

This is exactly why I used both to prepare my taxes. Use both the software that you can find anywhere and also try a tax office, since they dont charge unless you file.
