Our local news just did a story on this virus. Below are several websites they listed for getting rid it. If you wish to read the whole article go to Man Says Pop-Up Ad Held Computer Hostage - Looking Out 4 You News Story - WYFF Greenville Sites recommended to remove it: Spyware Warrior (home page) Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware (Don't know why this one wouldn't link, but it links from the story page.)

I clicked on the link to read the article (story) about the virus Man Says PopUp Ad Held Computer Hostage---. And guess what I started getting pop ups like crazy. So anyone reading this you might not want to click on that link. Luckily my DH must have good spyware on our puter et eventually kicked in. Just a word of warning. Lani |

I clicked on it and got nothing. But the reason the link won't paste for You in clickable form is Your copying text not the link. You cannot copy the link at the same time You copy text. The only reason this is a issue for You is because of the way the site (wyff) put the link up on their site. So here is the link Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com to get the link to be copied You must right click over it and choose properties. Then copy the url/website address and then paste it separately. Why the site put the other differently on their site I can't say, it maybe forced to publish that way because it's such a long link. I wish I knew more about computers/programming for computers because as much as all this is somewhat helpful, I always feel short all information. Like why does this happen to some "clickers" is it from "mycoupons" now, it the virus attached to the browser? Is it from the site that advertises the car site at quickrewards? Why didn't it jump on my computer? My anti- whatever stopped it? Well cool but.... Then others shouldn't be getting pop ups from wyff news 4 site cause I have gone there many times and never a issue, so I think it is from within the browser already, but if so.... how and when did this virus/worm/trojan get on/in? Well as You can tell I know enough to have a healthy amount of questions but not enough info otherwise. I further believe that the version of windows and browser used at the time in question has as much to do with if You get something as some of my other questions. I remember a joke saying something to the effect if microsoft made cars.... We would all stop in the middle of a trip/drive and everyone would after having the car shut off, jump out close the doors, change seats, and jump in and then roll up and down the windows turn it back on/start it and then proceed. The biggest issue with that all would be NO ONE would think twice bout the "reboot" process since We all would be accustomed to performing these actions on a regular basis. hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I was doing my Reward Program searches just now and was attacked by the "phony antivirus trojan".The address is softwarestore.co.nr for those who want to put it in your hosts file.Anyway I just wanted to tell you all if you ever get a popup prompting you to install these phony softwares ,the best way to be sure that it doesn't get you is to immediately bring up your Task Manager by right clicking in the area where your time is in the bottom right hand corner of your window,and choose Task Manager.Once you bring up Task Manager ,click on the Applications tab and find the name of the web page that is attacking you ,highlight it ,then click end task.That will terminate it from being able to do anything.Do not X out the software prompt.

Did this virus affect anyone's email acct? I have Comcast. I can receive but can't send any email for the past 2 dys. I contacted their Help section and it says they do a 24-hr surveilance on certain accts and that will stop you from sending email for that time. I have McAfee virus software, just updated everything and ran a scan and get nothing.

| Does anyone want my 13 yr old DS??? I had to hunt this thread up this evening. When DS was looking for info for his issue paper for social studies he got this virus or a very similar virus. I had to find out where to get the download to get rid of the junk he managed to acquire. I had to run the program 3 times before it got rid of all the bugs. |
| ||||
|
Well I would volunteer but truth is You would then have to hunt us down because You needed HIM BACK. You couldn't take it very long. Further I can imagine umpteen bazillion people out there that have kids who won't DO their home work at all so they would volunteer to. So keep him and be glad 3 times was all You had to do.

| Thanks for the laugh!! When DH got the virus I had to run the Malware only once. I was beginning to get concerned when I had to run it again and again for the 3rd time. At least I was able to find a download to get rid of the virus. |
