mypoints account closed?

I just clicked on an email from mypoints and I get that message that my account has been closed for a violation of terms. I read the terms twice and I am not violating anything. Is this a glitch at Mypoints? Anyone else have their account closed?? WAH I had over 3000 points!

Does the message give you any clues as to which of the Terms of Service you have broken?

Are you over 18?
Do you have only 1 email address that you use with MyPoints and have only 1 account?
Is your personal profile up-to-date and accurate?
Have you been active on your MyPoints account?

If you have been active and are certain that you haven't violated the TOS, I suggest you email them and ask why they have terminated your account.

Another thought: Are you sure the message is from MyPoints or is it one of those annoying "phishing" emails??

If you have more than one account in your household, they might want to verify you are actually TWO people, not just one working 2 accounts.

It's happened many times, folks just verify with their license and then the accounts are fine.

Unless it's a glitch - which has happened in the past as well - you'll have to email them to find out the actual why.

my account was closed and I have been a member for a long time. After a couple of emails back and forth , they implied that my account was closed because I had not been buying anything. I had done lots of offers but I guess they really want people who make purchases.

My account was closed last month. I was so mad. I only have one account and have had it for seven years. Their reply to me said they have a strict policy that you take advantage of offers presented to you .

no I haven't broken any of those rules. however I do not shop much through mypoints altho just last week I joined netflix. I don't think it is a phishing email b/c when I go to my account is when I get the message. thanks for all your thoughts. I have emailed mypoints and will just have to wait to see what they say. i just have a bad feeling....

Wow. You actually have to buy through them?? I have had an account for under a year and click through everything they send me....but I don't buy over the internet. I have already gotten a couple of nice gift cards so the clicking is worth it to me.......but I don't want to lose what points I have accumulated toward the next one without warning because I don't buy.

Are we getting here what we have been seeing with the tightening up of rules for credit cards??

Weird!

I was a member for YEARS before I bought anything. I'm not a big shopper at all with them.

If someone just did an offer like Netflix, that DOES bring MyPoints income, so it would make zero sense that lack of buying is the reason.

My Dad and sister have been members for more than a few years, they've never bought a thing, they're still members.

Hopefully it will work out soon.

According to their terms you MAY earn...... There was nothing there that stated that you had to BUY.

One of the BIGGEST reasons that I don't make purchases through my points is that they conveniently forget to credit the points to your account and then you have to argue with them to get the points added.

I totally agree! They have ripped off alot of people I know, who are no longer with the program. After much argument with them over my purchases, I gave up and closed my account also.

yes, it has also happened to me and when I called them they said I had done something that violated their policy and would not respond after that. I never even had the chance to send in ID'smfor my husband and my accounts. I had over 7000 points that I was saving for xmas. It seems that once you get a large balance they close you out. I had done some shopping thru them so i don't think that was it. They just have been really bad lately. I have joined a neat new program called HOMECLICKIN and their customer service is fantastic. Try them.

I have been a member of mypoints for just a couple of months and I haven't had any problems. I am also a member of HomeClickin and so far I have already had a cash out, in which I got a $10 Walmart giftcard, I get daily points for visting merchants under their days of the week, and they always have some extra great way to earn points, whether it be by their lucky friday contest or from the forum games. They are always there if you need them and have always rewarded me my points and answered any questions I may have had. After being a member for months with them I would highly suggest this rewards program to anyone who has ever had any problems being heard, and cashing out.

I emailed them telling them that I had not violated any of their terms and I would like to know exactly why my account was closed. I am leaving for 10 days (no computer!!) so when I come home hopefully there will be an answer. Will keep you updated.....

April - did you ever get this resolved or did you just give up? Looks like the same thing just happened to my husband. He clicked on an email they sent and a message came up that his account has been closed due to a violation of terms. He's been a member for years. I advised him to email them but then found this post and it doesn't look like that will do him much good!

OMG! I just went to check my account and it has been closed too! I'm FLOORED since I've been a member there for probably 10 years! Ooooh, I'm NOT happy. I had almost enough for a $25 gift card. Guess I'll be emailing them too.

Just an FYI. This happened to both my mother and my accounts last year at the same time. We both emailed them and got a response (I think after about a week) where they thought we each had multiple accounts (or maybe they thought both accounts were from 1 person). We each had to mail them a copy of a photo ID with name and address showing (all other info could be blocked out) and accounts were restored.

I thought it odd that my hubby's account wasn't deactivated as he and I use the same PC (same IP).

it would seem that they would investigate more completely before they
cancel someone's acct or at least send an email so you have a chance
to answer any questions they have

Well, just a quick update. DH got a standard form email back from them stating that he violated the terms but we still don't know which terms he violated since it seems to be the standard response they send to all. Here it is for anyone who wishes to read.

Dear Member: It has been brought to our attention that your point-earning activities are in violation of our Terms of Service. Although MyPoints encourages Members to actively participate in offers, we have a strict policy that you take advantage of offers legitimately presented to you via the MyPoints (R) Program. Please do review the relevant portions extracted from our Terms of Service provided for your convenience below. Accruing Points in a manner inconsistent with the Terms of Service is an abuse of our program. In your case, we have decided to exercise the right to terminate your MyPoints membership, resulting in the forfeiture of your Points. Please be advised that you are hereby banned from the MyPoints Program, and any attempt on your part to enroll again may result in further action on our part. MyPoints(r) membership and its right to use is limited to one individual per account. MyPoints.com allows only one email address per Member. Member agrees to provide only true and accurate information to MyPoints(r) (including to its advertisers and partners) at all times. Member agrees not to abuse MyPoints(r) privileges by conduct which is detrimental to the interests of MyPoints.com, including without limitation attempting to accrue Points or spend Points in a manner inconsistent with the rules of MyPoints(r) or intent of this Agreement, having multiple accounts, attempting to earn Points through other than legitimate channels, participating in purchasing or redemption fraud, or tampering with MyPoints(r) award links, etc. MyPoints.com reserves the right to terminate or disable any membership if MyPoints.com believes such Member has violated or acted inconsistently with the rules of MyPoints(r) or intent of this Agreement. Member understands and agrees disabling of membership will result in Member's inability to redeem and/or earn Points. Member understands and agrees termination of membership will result in the cancellation of all of Member's Points. MyPoints.com shall be the sole determiner in cases of suspected abuse, fraud, or violation of its rules and any decision it makes relating to termination of membership (including cancellation of Points) shall be final and binding. Sincerely, MyPoints.com

I still haven't heard back from them regarding my account but I'm fully expecting the same response.

BTW, I've been reading many stories about accounts being closed of people like myself who complete offers on GPT sites. Apparently, what is happening is that some of the freebie type offers have been signing us up for mypoints accounts. I know that I have received quite a few "welcome" type emails from mypoints under misc email accounts that I use for freebie type offers but there is always a "confirm your account" button in the email. I figured that since I don't confirm the account, it doesn't exist. However, I'm thinking that mypoints is picking these up as multiple accounts and therefore closing accounts. I'm still holding out hope that they realize what is going on, but I'm not sure that real people ever read our emails at mypoints so that might not happen.

Mypoints has been cancelling a lot of accounts without warning. They recently cancelled mine with no warning and no explanation. I emailed them 3 times and they will only reply with a form email. I had close to 3000 points and they are GONE! After it happened, I googled closed mypoints account and found that it is happening to a lot of people. It seems like they are claiming people have violated terms of service but conveniently refusing to say what they have done. It also seems like 3000 points is the "magic number" for getting your account cancelled. Some complaints I found suggested that the bad economy may have hurt them and they need to re-coup some $$$! Beware Mypoints!

Isn't there some internet "police" you could report them to, like SurveyPolice for survey sites that mistreat members?

It worked really well for me with MyView. They gave me all the money I was owed, and I was able to cash out and delete my account so I could be done with their annoying survey site.
