Put in Bay is an island. You take the ferry and visit the island. There is a winery and some neat old houses and shops. You ride around the island on a golf cart which is rented at a place close to where you get off the ferry. There is also a light house on the island which is pretty neat. There is another lighthouse close to Port Clinton also.

When my kids were younger, they loved going to the African Wildlife Safari. Mom didn't though, since my car windows would end up filthy! LOL! As others have said, there is a ton to do on Put-In-Bay. (I know there are coupons available for the golf cart rentals too if you do a PIB search) They have caverns, a putt-putt, tons of gift shops, wineries and a beautiful beach by the lighthouse. We do not like to stay on PIB, since it gets a little wild at night (too much for teens IMHO!). Kelley's Island is a lot more relaxed (more our style!). There are glacial grooves, shops, KI Winery and a beautiful park to hike in. You can rent golf carts here as well. If anyones into scuba diving, this is where to do it. There are several shipwrecks that easy to get to. I can't think of the restaurant we liked last year, but theres quite a few great restaurants too. |

If you are going to go to a waterpark, Cedar Point has one in their park. You don't have to pay to get into the park, you just pay to go to the waterpark. It's much better than Kalahari, IMO. Kalahari is too hyped up. I only go there to eat, and that is expensive. They just opened up some animal exhibit. It is only $5. You can pet/feed mountain goats, kangaroos, ostrich (spelling), zebras, giraffee, goats. It's small but fun. I would also suggest Kelly's Island as to Put-in-Bay. Put-in-bay is more for adutls, where Kelly's is more for children. I would not do the African, it's not worth it, and the animals have a tendency to scratch cars.

Make sure you stop in at Toft's Ice Cream in Sandusky, yum yum yum. Much better than Cold Stone. As for food, check out The Weenee Hut (across from mall), Danny Boys (on corner of Rte 250 and Bogart), Parkertown (in Castalia), and Brass Lantern. Are you looking at staying in the Sandusky area? Marblehead is really nice. They have nice beaches. What does your DD like to do? How about museums, shopping, etc. |
