Where to look for Accommodations

Where to look for accommodations!
I thought I would list a couple of websites that you can check out when deciding where you want to stay on your vacations whether it be a condo, hotel, or B&B.

If you would like to stay in a bed and breakfast, http://www.bedandbreakfast.com is a good site to check out.( I have had very good luck using this site. Just be aware that the pictures might not show you that the house is sitting on a main road. You need to ask specific questions when making your reservations.

If you plan on staying in a condo check out http://www.vrbo.com We have also had good luck using this site when we planned our trip to Hawaii. You get a better price dealing directly with the owner and it leaves you some room to negotiate the price.( Remember to ask if they charge a cleaning fee!)

There are many sites to look at when booking a hotel. Many people have had good luck using http://www.expedia.com ( I have heard complaints that their star ratings are not up to par. A 3 Star is really a 2 Star, 2 Star a 1 Star etc... One of those complaints being from my sister who used them when booking her stay in Hawaii.)

If you are willing to take a risk, you might want to try
http://www.hotwire.com orhttp://www.priceline.com .( I have had success using both of these sites) Remember if you are using priceline.com, you might want to go to http://www.biddingfortravel.com to see what bids have been accepted at priceline.

http://www.hoteldiscounts.com is another good place to look.
and www.hotelkingdom.com

http://www.quikbook.com/

My all time best deal has been using http://www.roomsaver.com They are not supposed to hold rooms for you, but when I have found a great rate, I have simply called the hotel directly and told them I saw the rate on roomsaver.com would they be willing to give it to me, and they have. You will have the most success if you call the same week you are planning on arriving.

Recommendations from some of our member:
pennypincherforsix: http://www.condos4less.com
airbornearmywife: www.travelocity.com
twogirlmom: Suggests using search engine such as www.google.com
calliecat:I booked directly with the hotel where I plan to stay (why....bonus points, I use their CC, I can cancel if something comes up, etc). I then went to Orbitz and Travelocity and found cheaper rates. I called the 1-800 hotel number and asked them about matching this. They asked my confirmation number and suprisingly found the same price as those two web sites. If you accrue points or airline miles, this might be the way to go.

I work in aviation and the following a good site.

www.airnav.com

click on airports
type in city or airport id, scroll to the bottom and it lists all the hotels, prices and distance from that airport. Click on the links and gives driving directions and lots of info on the hotels. I use it all the time for work. You get the direct number to the hotels.

There are a limited amount of rooms for these coupons, but I've been lucky a couple of times booking a room with them.

I have never been disapointed using Hotwire in Orlando, I live in FLA and go there often.
My favorite is when I get the Wyndham for 35 dollars a night. I sign up for wyndham by request and they even upgrade you by the pool and not the side lot!! Best of Luck to all!!

I really like www.tripadvisor.com for getting information about places I am thinking of staying. The reviews and ratings are from people who have actually stayed at the place. The forum section lets me post questions that I may not have found answered in the reviews.

The best place, I think, for finding out what bids have been won on Hotwire and priceline (along with the lists of hotwire and priceline hotels won) is Priceline and Hotwire Forum (betterbidding.com)
They also have different sections on car rentals, air travel, etc.
