I grew up in Dearborn, but haven't been back in a few years. I live in Atlanta now. The Hampton Inn on Michigan Ave. near Southfield Fwy. in Dearborn is reasonably priced and backs up to Greenfield Village. They sometimes have a package deal on tickets to the village & museum. The Dearborn Inn is across Oakwood Blvd. from The Henry Ford and they have a nice restaurant (probably on the expensive side) there. The Dearborn Inn is also a hotel, but as I recall it's fairly expensive. My favorite restauran is near the intersection of Michigan and Oakwood. It's 'BD's Mongolian BBQ'. The have a buffet line of raw food (meat, veggies, sauce/oils and spices. You fill up a bowl with what you like. Then you take it to a huge round grill and they grill it for you. It is all-you-can-eat and served with rice & tortillas. If you like salads, 'The Salad Bar' is in that same area too. It's a casual restaurant with good, healthy food. I haven't been there in a few years, but it was one of my favorites when I lived there. As far as grocery stores, there is Kroger (regular grocery store) & Meijer (like Super Wal-Mart/Super Target) in the area. There are lots of chain stores off Southfield Freeway between Michigan Ave. & Ford Road. If you want to eat on the water, there is a nice resataurant in Wyandotte (about 20 minutes from Dearborn) called Portifino. Wyandotte has a cute little downtown area on the waterfront (Detroit river) with little shops and restaurants. I can't really think of a lot of things to do other than Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum (which is wonderful, by the way), the IMAX and Ford assembly plant tour. The Detroit Zoo is nice and so is the Toledo (Ohio) Zoo. There are quite a few golf courses in the area if you are interested in that. The Henry Ford estate is on the campus of the University of Michigan - Dearborn, which is close to Greenfield Village. I'm not sure if they have tours or anything like that there anymore, however. Have a great trip and feel free to PM me with any more specific questions. Sarah........mom to Jason & Devin |

Take a tour of the Ford Rouge Plant (you can find this information at the Henry Ford Museum). Your best bet would be to stay in one of the hotels in Romulus, MI near the airport (between Wickham Rd and Merriman Rd). Merriman Rd goes right into the airport. There are more than a few hotels right near one another and it provides very easy access to both I-94 and M-39 (39 being the Southfield Freeway, which would take you to where you need to be for the Museum and Greenfield Village). Fairlane Mall is near the museum. We have Krogers and Meijers here. Their policies are as follows: Krogers: no limit on like coupons, (some stores will allow you to use expired coupons, some wont--it's hit and miss), they double 50 cents and below. Meijers: 2 like coupons limit, no expireds, doubling 50 cents and below. Both Kroger and Meijer: coupons 51 cents or higher are redeemed at face value. ~!~ If you want to go shopping, then Fort Wayne is where you need to go--they super double and triple every single day, limit 2 like coupons (all at Krogers)...Michigan is not the place. ~!~ Take in a Tiger game at Comerica Park in Detroit (it's near Greektown). If you don't have little kids with you, then go to Greektown Casino. Their parking structure is free to park for the casino, and the casino dumps out into Greektown and Trappers Alley (great food and entertainment). Take the Peoplemover around the city of Detroit. It is an unmanned el (like they have in Chicago). You can pick that up right at Greektown. One of our favorite restaurants in Greektown is the New Parthenon--VERY classy but inexpensive. The Casino has penny slots, nickel slots, quarter slots, dollar and up slots...it's a lot of fun for very little outlay so long as you don't go overboard and pink slip your house on Craps. LOL ~*~ Welcome to Michigan---especially our neck of the woods. Hope you have a lot of fun here.
