I saw this posted on the bottom of someone's page for Cape Coral: The beautiful region on the western edge of Cape Coral is covered in miles of protected mangrove forests and pine forests, some of which have been incorporated into the Charlotte Harbor State Park. The mangroves are crossed in many miles of walking trails, which are blissfully peaceful places to walk whilst on a Cape Coral holiday. There is some beautiful wildlife to be seen too. When you arrive home from a Cape Coral villa, you will most likely have seen dolphins, the endangered burrowing owl, many species of bird, including the bald eagle and manatees, wallowing in the shallow waters of the mangrove forests. It also suggested going out with a guide to explore Cape Coral. If I am not mistaken you are not too far away from Fort Myers from Cape Coral. They might enjoy a tour of Thomas Edison's home. We drive by it every year, and every year we are too eager to get to Sanibel to stop. Sun-Sentinel.com

I live in CC - welcome to my city & I hope you & your family have a great vacation! The Shell Factory on old US 41 in North Ft Myers has a some shopping available, but (IMO) is really geared more towards kids - they have a petting zoo, kiddie rides, etc. They do have the old "Waltzing Waters" show that used to be the huge attraction in the Cape back when they were first selling land here. I believe the show is in the evening (it is pretty, but needs to be seen in the dark to get the full effect - kind of like the laser light show at Epcot), not sure if they do it every evening or not, and I know there's a charge to just walk through the gates of the Shell Factory even if you do nothing but smell the animals...lol! The Edison Home is (again, IMO) a must see. I've lived here 19 yrs and have been there probably a dozen times, not counting Christmas time each year when they decorate the grounds for Holiday House - absolutely beautiful! You can get discounted tickets through AAA too. If you like nature-type things, there's Eco Park off Del Prado. Kayak/canoe rental available, nice boardwalk that goes a ways out over the river so you can see mangroves and wildlife. Really peaceful park. On weekends they sometimes have native plant sales there too. SunSplash is the local water park - pretty decent, you can grab an inner tube and spend the whole day floating around the Lazy River if you want! I think they're only open on weekends in Sept. and they have a senior discount on admission. My brain is fading - if you have any questions please feel free to PM me - I'll be glad to help. Kathy |

Shopping? Miramar Outlet in Estero, right off I75 (about 25 miles south of here) and Tangier Outlet in Ft Myers (south on Summerlin, not too far before you hit Sanibel - btw, there's a $6 toll to cross the causeway to Sanibel now, in case you decide to go there!). And can't forget the fleamarket! Fleamaster's (in Ft Myers) open Fri, Sat, and Sun is the biggest and the best around. There's a lot of new shopping and restaurants here in the Cape but I haven't hit them all yet since I work in Ft Myers. Eats? Gotta remember this is what I think - my kids don't agree w/all of them! lol! Shrimp Shack on Pine Island Rd is good (next door to Carrabba's), little bagel shop right across the side street there has really good bagels too. My all time favorite restaurant (even my kids have loved it since they were little!) is Farmer's Market in Ft Myers, on Edison Ave. Down home country cookin that can't be beat. So packed at lunchtime you pretty much can't get a table unless you're there really early or really late. Breakfast is good, but the "real" country cookin food is lunch and dinner. If you like chicken livers and you're there on the day they have them, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven...lol! If you like Mexican, gotta try Iguana Mia on Cape Coral Pkwy - it's really good too. Hope this all helps some! |

Went to Google the address for Farmer's Market and lo & behold they now have a website too! Here ya go - Home Page . Both sites have directions/maps. Hope you enjoy your visit!
