I always check directly with the rental companies first. Sometimes they have some great deals going. I always book as far in advance as possible and then check again a week before I leave to make sure the car company is not offering a better deal. Now if I can't find a good deal directly from the car rental company I check Hotwire.com: Discount airfare, hotel reservations, car rentals, vacation packages and cruises and see if they have a good deal. Once you book with them though you are locked in so make sure it is a great deal. If I don't see anything on hotwire either than I go to Cheap Flights, Hotels, and Rental Cars -- Discount Airfare | Priceline.com and bid on a rental car. You can check out BiddingForTravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum to see what bids are going through one priceline.
Good luck!

Cool

I recently went through CarRentals.com in early December. I am still getting emails from them and their prices could not be beat. I was able to get a Dodge Durango SUV in Minnesota for $24/day. Everyone else was wanting between $50-60/day for the same vehicle. The lady at the airport couldn't believe what a great price I got....and my paperwork with my name and keys were sitting on the counter when I got there. I was very impressed and would recommend and go through them again.

When we went out to Mt. Rushmore a few years ago, DH arranged a rental through a car dealership. It was much cheaper and the guy picked us up at the airport. If you google *car rental* for your area, you might be surprised what you find.

If the company that you or your spouse works has employees who travel frequently, you might be able to arrange something through your employer. At my company, we are allowed to get cheap rates for non-business travel.

well we all know that traveling abroad will require a lot expenditure so we should try to save as much as we can.we also buy cheap rental cars but for that you should make some efforts and do your homework.Try to search online for some companies that are affordable and check whether you can get discount offer. The car rental provider will also add some additional packages ,you can avoid those extra packages and control the price.
