HELP! Vacation to Destin Fl on the CHEAP! HELP!

I am trying to give my family a nice vacation with Very little budget in Destin Fl the first week of June. We are tent camping to keep our lodging cost low ($22. a night). We are taking the money we saved on the lodging budget to go to the water park (twilight hours-but still pricey!). Gas prices alone are going to kill us so Any Suggestions, Hints or Coupons for the area will HELP! Thx

We always try to go early when we go out to eat so that we can get an Early Bird special or just eat lunch out and make sandwiches for dinner, or you could catch your own dinner!
Good luck!

Depending on the ages of your kids. I wouldn't worry to much about all the 'extra' cost items. They will be more than happy to just play on the beach.

One suggestion... DON'T FORGET THE SUN TAN LOTION! Tee hee, when we lived in FL... the tourist always were easy to spot because of the SUN BURNS!

We just got back from a 4 night stay at St Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach. Our family of 5 had a blast fishing, swimming, snorkeling, bike riding, walking.........spending NO extra money, except for a t-shirt souvenir and a little bait for fishing. My 8yo declared it the best vacation ever.

The water was beautiful, the skies were clear and we loved it. We very much enjoy camping.

We did see a shark in fairly shallow water on the gulf side, so swim with caution, but have a great time.

I am from that area...have you gone, yet? There is a great state park across from a Walmart! Fun stuff and cheap? Get gas before you get there...gas is up to 4 dollars a gallon...
There is a really fun place to take you kids to swim, it's called crab island and it's just under the bridge driving west towards Okaloosa Island. Mexico beach going east towards panama city, you can find a bucnh of sand dollars too!
Just need to know more of that you are looking for.

Thanks so much for all the great replies!!! I will have to defiantly try Crab Island next time. We ended up spending VERY little for a GREAT vacation! We stayed at Henderson State park for $22 a night. We enjoyed all that comes with camping and the great beach that is right across the boardwalk. We visited Big Kahuna water park (2-5pm for twilight rates - saved over $50). The Track - go carts were a HUGE hit with the kids and my husband (BOGO free on tickets if purchased before noon and used before 4pm -saved a fortune!!). We splurged and ate dinner at Fudpuckers our last night in Destin.
Thanks again for all the great advice I could never have saved this much without you guys!!!
