Who's familiar w/ Charleston / Myrtle Beach?

We're looking to take the kids to this area in July. DH and I honeymooned in Charleston & would like to return. Thought the Hunley would be cool to see & of course, Ft. Sumter since DS just finished reading about it.

Suggestions on other things to do & see? We've never been to Myrtle Beach. The kids want to spend at least one day on the beach; DH & I are NOT beach people, so one day is all we can take.

Amusement parks would be fun, but the youngest child is six inches short of the 48" height requirement for most rides.

I don't know Charleston and I've only been to MB once, but when we went in March, the kids loved Broadway at the Beach. It's a big, outdoor combination shopping center, amusement park, playground, etc. I was very impressed with the place -- unlike many beach places, BatB and MB in general felt much safer to me.
