Euros for Italy

My Daughter is going with school in March and I want to buy Euros for Christmas to put in her card. Where should I buy these and when? Any advice would be helpful.

Check around with your local banks. Some handle foreign currency, but most don't. I'd buy them as soon as i found them. The rates change everyday, and I can't see them getting any better.

Another suggestion: I wouldn't have her carry too much cash. DS travels abroad a lot and we use the ATM. I put cash in, he takes it out. It's much safer than carrying a lot of cash, and it comes out of the machine in the country's currency. The big problem is balancing your check book. Of course, there's also a charge for withdrawing...but it's cheaper than getting pick-pocketed.

I agree, let her use the ATM in Italy. I used mine there without a problem.
