Anyone been to Acadia and taken the CAT to Nova Scotia?

We are thinking about doing this trip (driving from NJ) this summer. We'll spend the first day in Boston and then go to Bar Harbor and spend a few days before going to Yarmouth. Any advice what to do and not to do? Thanks!

Acadia is wonderful!! We to to Maine all the time. I have not done the CAT to Nova Scotia though. My husband gets sea sick so that is out! My parents flew to Nova Scotia and loved it. They said it was absolutely beautiful!

I live in Central Maine, about an hour from Acadia and my sister in law actually lives on the Island (Mount Desert Island). Acadia is indeed beautiful and there are plenty of things to do in the area. Just last weekend my family went down and spent the day hiking. We have not done the CAT trip, but my mother in law did and really enjoyed it. Although she only stayed for a few hours in Nova Scotia and said that if she ever did it again she would stay longer and rent a car to be able to see some of the beauty while there. She did not get sea sick, but did say that the movement bother her a little. There are some wonderful areas near Bar Harbor for day trips also. Belfast and Camden are also wonderful coastal towns that are nice to visit. This post helps remind me of just how beautiful Maine can be and how I often forget how blessed I am to live here. Of course, in the winter when its 10 below zero and we are getting a foot of snow, I don't feel so lucky.....

The cat does leave from Portland and also Bar Harbor. Deciding would depend upon what you want to see in Maine. Portland is a beautiful city, and Bar Harbor (Acadia) is a small coastal town. Many in mid Maine refer to the Portland area as the *other* Maine. I think if you are looking to see any of Maine, then it depends if you are looking at visiting a city or spending time seeing scenery, and relaxing. We make an occasional trip to both areas, and I enjoy both, just depends on what kind of mood I am looking for. For scenery, you cannot beat Bar Harbor, although there are some beautiful areas in and around the Porltand area. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Portland is indeed much closer to New Hampshire than Bar Harbor. Have you ever been to Bar Harbor?
I have never been to the Nubble light house, although we did spend a few days at York Harbor last year. We had a great time. Maine has such a nice variety of places to vacation. Portland is a great city, then there is Bar Harbor on the coast, and Mooshead Lake up in the hills. Sebec Lake is another great vacation spot. I love to travel out of the state to vacation and often take for granted the many wonderful areas right here in Maine to vacation!
