There are so many places to discover in Colorado. My kids still talk about Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods. We took a long drive south to the Great Sand Dunes. This was all done on a week's long camping trip so we kind of drove all over the area. I think Colorado is all about the amazing topography. And as far as feeling sick on the top of Pikes Peak (or anywhere else high) I didn't feel it and I am sensitive to it. I was nervous about feeling it, but for me it was so crisp on the top (40 degrees) that I felt just fine. However, I do remember at one point it was extremely hard to climb a little hiking trail up some stairs. But I never felt sick or faintish.

Ditto - we also camped in CO and did all the things listed above. Estes Park is absolutely beautiful. Pikes Peak is incredible, Garden of the Gods is very interesting. We took a 2-hour horseback ride through Rocky Mountain National Park. That was a lot of fun. We never felt sick from the altitude, either.

One other thing I would add is lunch or dinner at Casa Bonita in Denver. The food isn't that great, but the atmosphere is a lot of fun. It's a Mexican restaurant, but it has Mariachi (sp?) Bands, cliff divers, arcade, all sorts of fun stuff.

I'd love to go back some day, but too many other 1sts to do before we start repeats!

There was snow on one of the peaks in Estes Park when we were there in July also. Snowing one time and snow on the ground the other time we went up Pike's Peak. Altitude queasiness one time on Pike's Peak and the other time not. I'm not sure about why on that one. The drive from Manitou Springs to Estes Park, drive through Estes Park and back to Manitou Springs was an all day event. What a wonderful state to vacation in! We also enjoyed 7 Falls at Colorado Springs and Royal Gorge at Canon City.

Royal Gorge is absolutely breathtaking. The drive out of Denver and through the Eisenhower Tunnel is, as well. There are lots of ski resorts in Summit County (Keystone, Copper Mt., Breckenridge, Arapaho Basin and it seems like Vail is also a Summit resort).... and the terrain around there is beautiful year-round. Leadville has fascinating history. Molly Brown of Titanic fame was from there, I believe. There is a train ride you can take out of Durango.

You will absolutely love it.

I also recommend looking for Lays Chipotle' Limon potato chips. I had some that I purchased in Buena Vista and have not been able to find them outside of Colorado. YUM!

Oh yeah, the Royal Gorge. That was cool, but very commercialized. It costs to get up close to see and there was an amusement park there. The scenery is gorgeous though!

Lisa, we are also in KS, Overland Park to be exact. We are also planning a horse riding trip in the Rocky Mtn Park, 2 hrs, how was yours? Was 2 hrs. enough? Were your happy with what you saw? Which stables did you use? Any feedback would be great!! Thanks!
