Walgreens = frustrating

In early June, Walgreens ran this promotion:

Buy a Bayer Conyour Glucose Meter for $10

and get a $10 Register Rewards.

But were they sincere in making this offer ?

I say "NO" !

EVERY Walgreens within a 50 mile radius of me,

was sold out of that meter within 24 hours of the sale's start.

If they were TRULY sincere in making that offer,

they would have made sure that every Walgreens store was well-supplied.

But that never happened.

Furthermore, when i would go into their stores & ask for a rain check,

the store manager would always tell me :

"we can give you a rain check for that price,

but not for the Register Rewards".

So it is my belief that Walgreens ran this promotion,

simply to lure customers into their stores.

If that TRULY was a legitimate offer, they would run

the exact same offer again immediately - but this time

with an ample supply of meters in stock. But it hasn't

happened yet. And i'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen,

because they are terrible at keeping a decent supply of SALE items in stock.

Yeah. I've found that Walgreens doesn't have a lot of stock for their sales. If I really want to take advantage of one, I make sure I get there first thing on Sunday. But, because they are bad this way, I mostly avoid them.

When I went here in Ca it did not want to give me the $10 rewards I believe the machine that spits it out was broke or out of paper. Cashier called manager over he said oh no cause you are giving a $10 coupon and getting it free already the machine knows not to give you the Rewards I did not even argue with him.

I had purchased 10 of these coupons on ebay and did manage to get them all only this one store did not give me the rewards what i seen was each store had many 1 or 2 in stock .

My Walgreens does the same thing. If I use a register rewards for the same item it won't give you another one. They told me it was b/c it states one per customer. I very seldom do their deals any more because of this and they have very few quanties.

Count me in as not a fan of Walgreens for lack of stock on sale items and their loopy coupon and register rewards policies. It's unfortunate because a new store went in right on my way to work, but I'm going to drive the few extra blocks and do my shopping at CVS. They are much friendlier and their policies and systems work for me.

While Walgreens doesn't always have the advertised merchandise, I think you ran into the situation of others planning ahead of you. The meters were a $10 money MAKER, not a deal to break even on.

At the same time, coupons were out making the meters free -THEN you got the $10 rr. In effect, customers were getting the meter and $10rr. Who wouldn't?

A couple of simple things to remember about rr. #1 is that they are a manufacturer coupon, you have to have an item for each rr you redeem. #2 is that you can't get another rr for a product that you use a rr on from the same company. It's set up that way to not issue another. #3 they are short dated with a 2 week expiration so you have to use them fast.

You can, however, use that $10 meter rr toward another (different manufacturer) rr offer and get a different rr. I've seen it called "rolling".

(edited to also mention they keep some meters in the pharmacy, not out on in the aisles, you just have to ask at pharmacy)

To eliminate stress from my life, I quit shopping at Walgreens. It seemed like the right thing to do since every other time I went in for something there was a "problem" with one of their strange policies or items not being available. I now shop at Meijer or RiteAid and I don't miss that place at all. If you contact their corporate office, and I did a couple of times, they contact the store you have "problems" with and my store issued $10 gift cards both times. It still is just not worth it to me if they don't correct the issues that are at the root of all their troubles.
