I didn't get a smartsource insert in my paper for the last 2 weeks so I called my local newspaper company this morning and she said they are no longer including it in the paper. Is this happening in any other areas or just mine??? Thanks!

It just happened here in Southcentral Pa. also.

The company that puts the smartsource insert in is called News America. I went to their website and sent a complaint. I don't know if it will help but if we ALL do it...maybe.

Maybe just a PA thing? We are still getting it.

Think of each metropolitan area as being its own entity.

Where the newspaper or the issuer of the coupons can choose to or choose not to carry the coupon inserts in a specific newspaper.

The same holds true for the discount amount found on the coupons.

Most likely, that part of the coupon is printed last and for that reason, can be easily modified.

On Sunday, January 24, 2010 ...

Both the Plain Dealer (Ohio's largest newspaper) and the Akron Beacon Journal had the SmartSource insert.

The bigger the newspaper, the better the chance of having the inserts and of having decent coupons.

It is in the Tampa Tribune, but not in the St Pete Times. I was going to send an email to the company also. I will also let the newspaper know that if the coupons are not there, I will not bother to renew my sub.
Maybe if we all contacted both our local newspapers and NewsAmerica, it may make a difference.

I'm in York PA too and very disappointed not to receive the Smart Source inserts. I know a few people who have called the paper and everyone seems to get a different story. When I called, they told me the printer who printed them shut down suddenly, however, if you check the spine of the last Smart Source we received, it includes the Harrisburg Patriot - and they are still receiving it. Someone else was told there was a dispute between Smart Source and the newspaper company. I called the 800 number on the spine for News America and left a message over a week ago, and they have not returned my call. I certainly hope it gets straighted out. This is definitely impeding my saving money.

Coupon inserts are printed weeks in advance, so are store ads (like CVS, Walgreens, Staples, Target, and Kmart).

I called the newspaper company and talked to the marketing department. She said she was getting a lot of complaints and that they were writing them all down and forwarding them to the proper people. She said that they hope it is only temporary but that they need everyone to call. She said it wasn't the newspaper company, that it was News America who pulled out. I went to the News America website and sent a few requests to have them put smartsource back in the York PA paper. I don't know if it will help but we can try. Tell everyone you know to call the paper and/or email News America!

Just an update. I guess calling and bugging them paid off because as of this weekend smartsource is back in the York paper! It doesn't always work but in this case it did and I'm happy!

I live in Florida not in my paper this week I called and they said they said all Newspapers are going to stop . They will offer all of their coupons online. I think the face of couponing is changing.If smart source is doing this You can bet the rest of them may follow suit (much cheaper for them im sure) which means you will no longer be able to buy tons of papers to get multipule coupons. because when you print coupons they limit you to 2
