Talking My first shopping trip after 2 yrs of no coupons

My bi-monthly shopping trip went well I do think. I am a commissary shopper so no doubles, however I did get bargains and some frees. I spent $300.11 ( family of 6) $22 of that was tax, I saved $172.90 in coupons. So I brought home almost $500 in food. I got free Bulleye, free Sue Bee Honey, free jello, Bertonilli's Pasta sauce for .89 a jar, Muellers for .09 a box, Tetley herbal tea for .39 each, with the on shelf coupons and the WYB it was a successful shopping trip. I thought I would share the experience again with all of you and now the game is on to see if I can do better the next time around.

Dawn

Great JOB

Great Job Dawn, it must be nice after 2 years to save that much money on groceries. Keep up the good work. It will take a while to get in the groove again, just start collecting coupons again and be aware of as many sales and prices at the commissary that you can.

Have FUN

Great Dawn!

How many of those type of shopping trips do you need to do a month to feed your family? Is this a once monthly expense with just buying essentials the rest of the month? I havent tried a large shopping yet, Im too disorganized, Ive been making small lists
and doing pretty well. I ordered a bunch of coupons from ebay for things I know we will use and will wait for them to go on sale. I managed to combine a sale with coupons for WISE Cheddar Chees Popcorn and got them for .34 cents each (reg $1.79) I am finding that we now have ALOT more food than we ever had and storage is dwindling. I hope I dont gain weight with all this food!!

This should really last us the month, I generally shop 2x a month. I do not generally buy processed or pre made foods( like homestyle bakes, or stouffers, banquet etc). I did grab 4 boxes of pizza rolls, and 3 boxes of jose ole, and 3 boxes of cereal bars. I have teens and I think all the pizza rolls are gone now. *L* We bake with butter and only use olive oil. Most of the food was food, meat, veggies, and things to make meals with but very little what I call "junk" food. No premade cereal (with exception of the cereal bars). I bought organic eggs with coupons they came out cheaper than the store brand per dozen. We don't drink soda and I was actually going to get a bag of chips and forgot. Albacore tuna in the pouch with coupon was .79, and fresh valley canned chicken (which has nothing added but salt) was .49 a can with coupons. The kids eat lots of tuna and chicken salad for lunches. We do not buy meats with nitrites or nitrates in them and we don't eat pork. I do miss out on a lot of really good buys because of what we don't eat as you can usually get lunchmeat for almost free at the commissary. However my goal this year is eat healthier, now if they would just quit putting corn syurp in everything I would be a happy woman.

I will go back now and shop the sales for the frees and very discounted items at the stores that double now that I have gotten the bulk of the shopping out of the way. We are good on storage space I have 29 cabinets and 19 drawers in the kitchen. We had to do a little reorganizing but it all fit. I will actually have to plug in the freezer here soon, it is sitting in the garage waiting to get filled. As I have .50/1 Totinos and a rain check for them from the sale last week at KRoger. I also got free Lipton tea at Harris Teeter, .50/1 they will only double your 1st 20 coupons, so you have to decide what you want to get that day. I paid .25 tax on 20, 16 ct boxes of Lipton Tea. The downside is I have to plan all this shopping because it takes me an hr to drive into all these stores from where I live and I drive a gas hog so I have to make it worth the time and gas to double and get free's.

You will get organized, it just takes a moment and you will swing right into tons of savings. I couponed the first time for a month or so(years ago when I started), then a friend said something to me about it and this light went on over my head and it all clicked in and I started getting money back when I shopped. Winetags are not as plentiful as they used to here and I won't pay face value for them like some people do on ebay. As our store's don't double $1 and up coupons. So I have to get creative with the WYB's. Even if I have to buy something I don't want and I get it free or really cheap, I can give it away or donate it. As long as I am saving it all good.

If you need help don't hesistate to ask.
