What would you do?

I bought items on another forum and its been over 2 weeks and i haven't received the items.
The thing is....the seller has a great rep on the forum....she has a reciept to show that it was mailed...and i didn't ask for insurance or delivery con. it was a $30 purchase and was shipped media mail.

It looks like i have to take the fall on this deal...what do you think?

You can go to USPS and check approximately how long it should take a package to travel from the seller's zip code to yours. Media Mail can be very slow.

First off...I see you're in Northern VA...I am too!!
I'm in the woodbridge area.

Anyway USPS said up to 14 days to get to CA and seem to think thats the max since CA is so far from VA

.
Shes actually in NJ and i'm in VA so not that far apart.
I know media take a while but its been sent to me on the 26th June and still no package.
DO you think theres still hope its on its way and if i dont' get it ,do i just count it as a loss on my part?

always allow 30 days...........so many things can happen with the mail, or the envelope may be sitting on the desk under some papers. etc., etc.

Q1) What kind of receipt?

Q2) Does Media Mail class offer a 'mailing' receipt?

Q3) Was the item media mailable? the USPS is cracking down on items that are not permitted to be mailed using Media Mail.

She says she has a mailing receipt
The item was scrapbooking paper so it was media mailable.

I was thinking of filing a claim with paypal but that would freeze her account and i don't think she DIDN'T mail the package i think it was lost.
Of course i'm not 100 % sure but i don't believe she trying to scam me.

Its really bugging me losing this money like this.

I am in a paperback swap group and I am in nc and send a book to tenn to another member media mail. It took it 7 weeks to get there. I could have walked it to her by that time!

It once took me 45 days to receive a media mail package from FL to NC - I was at my wits' end, but it finally arrived....I learned my lesson, though, and will never, ever, ever buy anything from anyone that wants to send it media mail again.

I have decided to wait a little after reading the posts here.
I do have a scanned copy of the receipt she has ,showing that the pacakge was mailed to my city and zip.
With paypal they would cover the amount if the package is lost and i have 45 days to file a claim so i will allow at least 40 days since it was paid for before i file a claim.Hopefully i would get it by then.
Thanks everyone, although its no fun waiting ,i feel like theres some hope now.

Scrapbooking paper is not media mail (according to the USPS websites decsription of media mail). So maybe the package got checked by the USPS, I know they have been randomly checking packages (according to my postal lady)that are mailed by media mail. People think alot of things are media mail that are not. Anyway, they always tell me 3-4 weeks with media mail.

I would think that they would contact the sender as the sender would be the one to receive the fine because they would be the one to have actually violated the rules by sending something by media mail that is not actually media material. I am not sure of the procedure though, anyone work for the post office and can answer this question? I am not even sure how the post office would know to check for something not media mail, maybe an odd shaped package that is not heavy enough for a media mail item? All, I know is I have been mailing alot of books and movies lately that I have been selling on Ebay and every once in awhile, the post office lady keeps telling me they do randomly check, I never think to ask any questions about it because I am really mailing media material. Then they always tell me it could take 3-4 weeks to get there.

UPDATE:
Today paypal closed the case after an investigation and found in my favor.
The seller i also found out....opened another paypal account and i was able to get the new name and email she used from a person who bought from her recently.Seems she cleaned out her account that i paid to and opened a new one to continue selling.
I was able to get my $30 back after i sent paypal the information about the new account!!!
Not sure if thats what did it,but the case was closed and i didn't get the $30 because of insufficient funds.30 mins after i gave paypal the new info about her new paypal account i got an email saying the case is being reviewed again and the $30 was in my account!!
I just wanted to let you all know the outcome.
