MyCoupons Reemerges, Joining Social Networking and Online Coupons Together

Written: 21 Mar 2007

PITTSBURGH, March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- MyCoupons.com, the first online coupon site launched in 1995, has come back to life. Once again, MyCoupons is changing the industry by using technology to better connect its members, while continuing to deliver the most coupon codes of any online website. Once the leader in the online coupon space, MyCoupons had been slowly declining in traffic and relevance since 2001. The site was once part of the successful media and technology firm Direct Response Technologies, which was sold to Digital River in January 2006. Now spun-off and able to operate independently, MyCoupons has focused on the needs of its users, and is ready to reclaim its place as the #1 Coupon code source.

Jason Wolfe, founder of MyCoupons states, "I founded MyCoupons in 1995 and built it for 2 years focusing on our user base. We sold MyCoupons in 2000, however, the market crashed and we acquired it back from Save.com (division of Valassis at the time), and then we put the site on the back burner as we focused on building a technology based firm, Direct Response Technologies, Inc. After selling Direct Response Technologies, Inc., in early 2006, we bought back MyCoupons and began to put a business plan together and hire a world class team to reclaim our place in the online coupon world. We have invested close to three quarters of a million dollars over the past year and we are proud to be able, today, to announce our re-birth."

"There is a real sense of community at MyCoupons, and that is definitely one of the key reasons that our members keep coming back. Everyone loves finding a great deal, and when you have a whole community of people searching for and posting coupons to help each other, it creates the start of some great friendships. Many of our members start out talking about coupons and deals, and end up swapping personal stories, advice and support," says Brad Ryba, Director of MyCoupons.

MyCoupons(R) currently has over 10,000 online coupons. These offers are mainly redeemed by clicking over to a merchant's website and making a purchase online using the coupon codes. The members control most of the content, in that they can post coupon codes, as well as tag and rank them based on their preferences. The web community has access to online forums, private messaging, a personal portal, and their own blog page. "We realize that this community of members is what has sustained MyCoupons since the beginning, and we rebuilt the site entirely with them in mind. What we have created is a site where people can connect on many different levels, in a way that few websites can offer. Staying committed to our users is what will continue to set us apart from other coupon sites," says Mr. Ryba.

About MyCoupons.com

MyCoupons was established in 1995 by Jason Wolfe, originally launched as CouponsDirect/DirectCoupons from 1995 - 1997. In 1997 the name was changed to CouponDirectory, and in 1999 the name was finally changed to MyCoupons.

In April 2000, MyCoupons was sold by Direct Response Technologies, Inc. (the prior owner of MyCoupons) to Save.com (a division of Valassis Communications) in a 5 year deal amounting to a value of an estimated $20 million dollars which consisted of cash, stock in Save.com, management fees, and marketing fees. However, the deal unraveled as Save.com headed for bankruptcy, and by December 2000, MyCoupons was turned back over to Direct Response Technologies, Inc.

In January 2006, Direct Response Technologies, Inc. was sold to Digital River, Inc., and the MyCoupons was spun off into Direct Sites, Jason Wolfe's newly formed company. Beginning in July 2006 under new leadership, MyCoupons has undergone a major re-development, and the site re-launched on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2007.
